Everyone wants to look beautiful, fresh, and young. But aging is inevitable, and so are the signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, loose skin, and pigmentation. There are many quick fixes available like anti-aging creams and lotions but they rarely work.
At Arra Aesthetics, you can reverse the signs of aging with facelift surgery or rhytidectomy.
Facelift surgery (also known as rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that lifts the droopy and saggy features of the face and gives it a taut and firmer appearance. A facelift not only reduces fine lines and wrinkles but also rejuvenates the face by restoring lost elasticity.
At Arra Aesthetics, we perform three different types of facelift surgeries:
Traditional facelift surgery:
In traditional facelift surgery, the incisions are made from the temple to the back of the ear. Traditional facelifts have the most drastic results and deal with most signs of aging.
Minimal Access Cranial Suspension (MACS):
Minimal access cranial suspension is a minimally invasive facelift technique that was developed in Belgium. In MACS, the incisions are made in front of the ear.
Keyhole (Endoscopic) Facelift Surgery:
Keyhole facelift surgery or endoscopic facelift surgery is a new method of performing facelifts. It involves using endoscopy which is a procedure where the surgeon inserts an endoscope (a small camera) through a small incision. Endoscopic facelift surgery is mostly performed on younger patients and leaves behind minimal scarring when compared to other facelift techniques.
Many people opt to undergo facelift surgery because of the many benefits the procedure gives. Some of these benefits are:
Tightens the skin
Redefines the jawline
Improves face contour
Increases self-confidence and self-esteem
Dr. Vasant Gholave, Director of Arra Aesthetics, Pune, has listed down the criteria of a good candidate for facelift surgery:
An overall healthy person
A non-smoker (or someone ready to quit smoking for the prescribed period)
Someone unhappy with their face
If you fit the above criteria, then you are an ideal candidate for facelift surgery or rhytidectomy. Book a consultation with Dr. Vasant Gholave to learn about your options.
During the consultation for facelift surgery, Dr. Vasant Gholave will carefully examine the patient’s face and discuss the patient’s wishes with them. Based on his examination and the patient’s desires, Dr. Gholave will advise the patient on the most suitable type of facelift technique. He will describe the detailed procedure to the patient, including the expected results and possible risks so that the patient can make an informed decision.
Dr. Vasant Gholave will enquire about the patient’s full medical history to ensure that no complications arise during the facelift procedure. He will plan the treatment carefully to ensure the patient’s safety and satisfaction.
Before the facelift surgery, the surgeon asks the patient to thoroughly clean their face and scalp with germicide soap to ensure that the face is free of any germs that may cause infection.
The first step during a facelift surgery is administering general anesthesia or local anesthesia so that the patient does not feel any discomfort. Then the surgeon makes incisions on the face. The position and size of the incisions depend on the type of facelift.
In the case of keyhole facelift surgery or endoscopic facelift surgery, the surgeon then inserts an endoscope (a small camera) through the incision. The surgeon views the image from the camera on a screen. The enhanced view allows the surgeon to perform the procedure more effectively.
After the incisions are made (and if needed, the endoscope is inserted) the surgeon separates the overlying layer of skin from the tissues and muscles underneath it. Then the surgeon tightens the skin and redrapes it. If needed, the surgeon also tightens the facial tissues or inserts soft tissue fillers before redraping the skin.
The surgeon removes any excess skin and then sutures the skin back into place. If needed, the surgeon may place drains.
Facelift surgery can also be performed alongside a neck lift if it is required by the patient.
The patient will be able to return home the same day as the surgery. Some pain and swelling are common after the surgery, but the surgeon will prescribe medications to alleviate the discomfort. The results of the surgery will be visible after the swelling fades away.
Usually, after facelift surgery, the patient can resume their daily activities after 2 weeks of downtime, though it is recommended to avoid strenuous activities for at least 6 weeks after the surgery. Patients are also recommended to diligently attend the follow-up appointments with the surgeon so that the surgeon can monitor the healing and ensure that there are no complications.
Like all surgical procedures, facelift surgery carries some risks. They are:
Infection
Temporary numbness or change in sensation
Bleeding
Seroma (collection of fluid under the skin)
Unsatisfactory results
These risks rarely occur and at Arra Aesthetics, our team does its best to ensure the safety and satisfaction of the patient.
