The procedure of a vaginoplasty is as follows:
Before the surgery, the surgeon will determine the amount of tightening to be done and mark the areas where the extra skin needs to be removed.
During the procedure, first, local or general anesthesia is administered.
Then, strong sutures are used to tighten the tissues beneath the skin.
The mucosal skin is sutured closed after the vaginal canal is tightened.
Any extra protruding skin is removed for a more aesthetic result.
Generally, it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to fully recover from a vaginoplasty. But patients can return to work and non-strenuous daily activities after a week’s downtime. Any strenuous activities must be avoided till the recovery is complete since they can lead to the incisions reopening.
